A calendar of selected events
1990
- Act of the Polish Parliament which led to the formation of FNP
- Notarized deed bringing FNP into existence
1991
- Registration at Warsaw District Court
- Transfer to the Foundation of the sum of 95m zloty (part of the unused assets of the Central Fund for Development of Science and Technology, which existed until 1990) and creation of FNP’s founding fund
- Opening of the Foundation’s first office (at ul. Wspólna 1/3, Warsaw)
- Conclusion of the first subsidy agreement (the Children’s Health Research programme)
1992
- Launch of first programmes to support science, including establishment of the FNP Prize (now the most prestigious scientific award in Poland) and first awards of domestic scholarships for young scientists (now known as the START programme).
- Separation of the Foundation’s personnel from the state administrative authorities, in accordance with the Act on restriction of business activity by persons performing public functions; appointment of the following to make up the Management Board of FNP:
- Vice-presidents: Professor Marian Grynberg and Grzegorz Krawczyk
Professors Grabski and Grynberg directed the Foundation for the next 13 years, until 2005.
1995
- Amendment to the Foundation’s statute, specifying the Foundation’s mission in more detail (this version remains in force today)
1996
- Move to the Foundation’s new office at ul. Grażyny 11, Warsaw
1998-2002
- Dispute with the tax authorities concerning investment of funds in securities, ending with a resolution of the Supreme Court which was favourable to the Foundation and set a precedent for the NGO sector
2000
- Amendment to the Act on commercialization and privatization of state enterprises, awarding the Foundation 2% of funds from the privatization of wholly state-owned companies
2001
- The Foundation’s 10th anniversary: a jubilee exhibition documenting 10 years of the Foundation’s activity, presented at the largest academic centres
2004
- Obtaining by the Foundation of the status of public benefit organization (OPP).
2008
- Launch of four programmes financed from the European Funds
