MONOGRAPHS Programme
This is a regular competition for Polish authors of previously
unpublished monographs in the areas of the humanities and the
social sciences.
The works selected by the Editorial Board are published in
the FNP Monographs series, which consists of nearly 90 titles
to date. Currently included in the programme are works by foreign
authors which are concerned with Polish issues and have been
written in the Polish language.
TRANSLATIONS Programme
Under this scheme, funds are made available to cover the
cost of translating into a foreign language of studies
by Polish scholars specialising in the humanities, to be
issued by a renown publishing house abroad.
PUBLICATIONS Programme
Due to FNP assistance under this programme, various multi-volume
works edited by research institutes documenting Poland's
historical, cultural and technological heritage are published.
The Foundation continues to cover the cost of editing and
printing of a number of publications including Polski
Słownik Biograficzny (The Polish Biographical Dictionary) and Słownik
polszczyzny XVI wieku (A Dictionary of 16th Century Polish).
In 2005, the scope of this programme was extended: from
this year onwards, it will include a series of monographic
studies presenting the results of archaeological research
projects concerning the origins of the Polish state, to
be published under a common heading Origines Polonorum.
FNP Conferences: Foundation's Debates on Science
First held in 1996, these conferences organised by FNP take
place annually, bringing together several dozen distinguished
scholars, who meet to discuss various issues of great significance
to the scientific community in Poland. So far, the debates
concerned, among other topics, criticism in science, the
peculiar character of relations between the older and the
younger generations of scientists, and various ethical
issues facing science and research workers. Conference
materials are published in brochures (available only in
Polish).
Collaboration with Scientific Associations
For several years now, the Foundation has been a supporting
member of a number of leading scientific associations of
a corporate nature in Poland, like the Warsaw Scientific
Society, the Toruń Scientific Society, the Society of the
Friends of Science in Poznań, and the Society for the Promotion
and Support of Science. In addiction, FNP is a supporting
member of the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of
America (PIASA), operating abroad.
