edition - research on linguistic categorization of the world
The
purpose of this programme is to support young scientists
in obtaining independence, building research groups in the selected disciplines.
Disciplines are announced by the Foundation every year.
In 2009 Focus call covers research on linguistic categorization of the world.

The programme is addressed to the following candidates:
- PhD holders with up to 9 years of experience;
- active in research and achieving considerable
achievements;
- who are affiliated with a Polish research entity, whereas the preference is given to those candidates who are affiliated with the different research unit from this one where they received their PhD or those who have the post-doc experience;
- have experience in group leadership for no longer than 2 years;
- while receiving the FOCUS grant the will not be beneficiaries of any other FNP programmes
Candidates should determine their research plans taking into account the research team they are going to lead. Besides they have to present their scinetific record inccluding publications. An institution
with which the candidate is affiliated or will be affiliated
should ensure the appropriate working conditions to
carry out independent scientific research outlined in
the application. Therefore, the quality of working conditions
offered to the applicant by the above-mentioned institution
is also taken into consideration in the competition
procedure.
The
programme includes the following elements:

stipend for the applicant, stipends for the team members (young PhDs or PhD students)
-
subvention for financing equipment
and materials necessary to carry out research as well
as books and journals, travels, foreign exchange of
personnel, expenses relating to conferences, remuneration
of assistants and technical staff for work carried out
on the basis of agreements for services and agreements
for the execution of a particular task;

funds allocated for administrative and technical
expenses, including expenditures for obtaining
further financial support, i.e. grants, subsidies, fellowships,
etc.
Every year the
Foundation awards up to 5 grants
to be paid during a period of three years. In certain
cases, there is a possibility to extend the fixed period
up to 5 years, provided that a successful applicant
obtains additional financing from some external source.
A
single grant amounts to PLN 300,000, i.e. PLN
100,000 yearly.
Under
this programme, the successful candidates are entitled
to apply for additional funding dedicated to improve and develop research methods, i.e.
through acquisition of equipment, or laboratory facilities
and premises modernisation. The total amount of resources
allocated for the grants in this case amounts to PLN
2 million.
Both
the subsidy as well as the grant are awarded on
a competitive basis.

Applications are to be submitted in Polish and in English.
