Membership in International Organizations
EUROPEAN FOUNDATION CENTRE (EFC)The European Foundation Centre is an association set up in 1989 by seven European foundations. It currently has more than 200 member and affiliated organizations, including almost all of the largest foundations in Europe.
The EFC, by harmonizing European laws relating to foundations, acts to create a legal and fiscal environment in Europe which is friendly to foundations.. One of the ways in which the EFC is active is by monitoring the activities of the EU and its institutions, and maintaining contacts with European and supranational institutions and forums such as the Council of Europe, the World Bank, UNESCO, and the European Social Policy Forum. The EFC is also a platform for cooperation between foundations, a discussion forum, and an initiator of joint actions (for example, to bring about the creation of uniform European laws relating to foundations). Other Polish foundations belonging to the EFC include the Stefan Batory Foundation, the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation, the Leopold Kronenberg Foundation and the Rural Support Foundation. Since 2007 there has operated within the EFC the European Forum on Philanthropy and Research Funding – a forum of cooperation for foundations funding scientific research. Within the framework of that initiative, which is supported by the European Commission, foundations exchange experience and conduct negotiations relating to the launching of joint programmes. The Foundation for Polish Science is one of the founders of the Forum.
