Cambridge University is the second-oldest English university after Oxford, and is one of the best universities in Europe and the world. The University is composed of faculties and colleges (which do not have equivalents in the structure of most Polish universities). One of the university’s most prestigious colleges is Clare Hall – a relatively small institution in terms of student numbers (it has mostly doctoral students and fellows), known for its atmosphere of creative cooperation between all its members, unhampered by hierarchy or other divisions. It is because of this atmosphere conducive to academic work, the high standards of research and its prestige, Clare Hall is an extremely popular place among talented young researchers from all over the world. In order to make it easier for young Polish scientists to join the elite group of Clare Hall fellows, FNP has concluded a cooperation agreement with Clare Hall under which KOLUMB scholarship recipients can take up a post-doctoral placement at Clare Hall, financed by FNP. Those interested in a placement at Clare Hall under the KOLUMB programme should first contact a potential scientific supervisor at CambridgeUniversity and obtain from him or her a letter of invitation, confirming acceptance of the placement on condition that financing is obtained. Next an application should be submitted to the KOLUMBprogramme in accordance with the competition procedure, together with the documents required by Clare Hall (application form, three letters of reference and letter of invitation from CambridgeUniversity). All documents are forwarded to Clare Hall by FNP. Important: documents must not be submitted directly to Clare Hall. The scholarship and stay at Clare Hall are conditional on positive completion of the competition procedure for the KOLUMB programme. For organizational reasons, recipients of scholarships from the Foundation go to Clare Hall in the calendar year after the completion of the competition.
