INSERM

The National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) is a French research institution created in 1964, active in the broadly defined medical sciences, both fundamental and clinical, as well as public health research. INSERM has more than 300 laboratories, most of which are parts of the structure of universities, institutes (CRNS, Pasteur, Curie) or other research institutions (such as oncology centres). These laboratories employ more than 13 000 scientists from various countries. INSERM is chiefly financed by the ministry of higher education and science and the ministry of health.

The Foundation cooperates with INSERM under the KOLUMB programme. Those interested in a post-doctoral placement at any of the INSERM institutes should find a scientific supervisor at their chosen institute and obtain a letter of invitation, confirming the institution’s readiness to accept the placement. Next the candidate makes an application to the KOLUMB  programme in accordance with the competition procedure. If an FNP scholarship is awarded, the recipient may take up a 12-month placement at his or her chosen centre.
