National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA)
The National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA) is a leading institution conducting research in a wide range of agriculture-related fields (including subjects relating to food and environment protection) in France. INRA has nearly 20 regional research centres employing more than 8000 people. INRA is mainly publicly funded, with funds provided by the ministries of higher education and science and of agriculture and fisheries. It has an annual budget of around 800 million euro.
The Foundation cooperates with INRA on the KOLUMB programme. Those interested in a post-doctoral placement at any of the INRA institutes should find a scientific supervisor at their chosen institute and obtain a letter of invitation, confirming the institution’s readiness to accept their placement. Next the candidate makes an application to the KOLUMB programme in accordance with the competition procedure. If an FNP scholarship is awarded, the recipient may take up a 12-month placement at his or her chosen centre. After 12 months have elapsed, subject to a positive assessment of the results of his or her scientific work by the host centre, it is possible to extend the placement for a further 12 months, this time financed by INRA.
