2011 - The FNP Prize Award Ceremony
08.12.2011
The Foundation for Polish Science Prizes for 2011 were awarded on Wednesday afternoon, 7 December 2011, at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. It was the 20th year in which the Prizes have been awarded. The Foundation for Polish Science Prize is considered to be Poland’s most prestigious scientific distinction. The winners, professors: Tomasz Giaro, Jan Potempa, Maciej Lewenstein and Elżbieta Frąckowiak, received statuettes and certificates from the chairman of the Council of the Foundation, prof. Andrzej Członkowski, and the president of the Foundation, prof. Maciej Żylicz.
The ceremony, attended by many representatives of the research community, public and scientific institutions, the media, and family and colleagues of the winners, was a celebration of Polish science and the people who create it. This year the ceremony was also graced by the presence of Polish state officials: Marshal of the Senate Bogdan Borusewicz and Minister of Science and Higher Education prof. Barbara Kudrycka.
Awarding of the prizes was accompanied by brief presentations of the research achievements recognised this year, along with film profiles of the scholars themselves. In their words of thanks for the prizes, the winners stressed the huge role that other people have played in their success: scientific mentors and colleagues at various stages in their scholarly careers, as well as family and friends, without whose support and understanding they could not have attained such achievements.
A quartet of talented musicians—recipients of scholarships from the Polish Children’s Fund—performed a brief concert for the prize winners. The winners also received personal congratulations from prof. Barbara Kudrycka.
The Foundation for Polish Science Prize is awarded in four fields of research for distinguished, clearly defined and confirmed scientific achievements which have opened new perspectives for research. The prize carries a monetary award of PLN 200,000.
