On November 13, the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) and the Research Council of Norway (RCN) jointly organized a conference summarizing the project “Barriers of research valorization in Poland: Lessons learnt from EEA and Norway Grants and recommendations.” The project sought to better understand barriers to research valorization.

The conference provided an opportunity to present and discuss the project conclusions and the preliminary report. The event gathered experts and research teams’ members involved in the project.

The conference opened with presentations by FNP representatives – Michał Pietras and Dr. Dorota Juszczyk – about the project assumptions and its implementation. Then Dr. Lisa Cowey of T3I Ltd. discussed the final goals, objectives, and structure of the Summary Report along with its key findings and recommendations.

The presentations preceded three panel discussions moderated by Dr. Lisa Cowey:

  • “Grant scheme design/valorization, funding & motivation, and impact” – the panel included Prof. Urszula Stachewicz (AGH), Prof. Natalia Marek-Trzonkowska (University of Gdańsk), Prof. Karl Klingsheim (Norwegian University of Science and Technology);
  • “Legal & regulatory issues and education (skills and competencies)” – the panel included Prof. Maciej Wojtkowski (ICTER), Prof. Lauritz Holm Nielsen (Aarhus University), Dr. Magdalena Winiarska (Polish Academy of Sciences), Dr. Huw Edwards;
  • “Technology transfer: Research valorization and interacting with the external world” – the panel included Prof. Bożena Tyliszczak (Cracow University of Technology), Prof. Rune Fitjar (University of Stavanger), Dr. Randi Taxt (VIS).

The event ended with a summarizing round table discusion, which included six foreign experts: Dr. Lisa Cowey, Dr. Randi Taxt , Prof. Rune Fitjar, Prof. Karl Klingsheim, Dr. Huw Edwards, and Prof. Lauritz Holm-Nielsen.

Conference conclusions and recommendations will be included in the project’s Summary Report, which will be published by the end of 2024.

The conference organization was funded by the Fund for Bilateral Relations, the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014–2021, and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014–2021.
