In connection with the tragic events in Ukraine, the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) decided to launch a new initiative: the Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation Programme. The FNP plans to finance up to six scientific projects in the field of social sciences and humanities carried out jointly by a pair of scientists from Poland and Ukraine. The budget of each project for the period of 12 months is PLN 268 800, which includes both salaries of applicants and research-related costs.
The programme is addressed to scientists with a doctoral degree, who regardless of nationality, on the day the war in Ukraine began, namely February 24, 2022, worked at institutions conducting scientific research in Ukraine(as well as in the temporarily occupied territories) and together with a partner working in Poland will propose a research project in social sciences or humanities. .
“In the face of the brutal Russian aggression against the independent Ukrainian nation, we immediately decided to support our neighbors as best we can,” says Professor Maciej Żylicz, President of the FNP. “So we have launched a new funding scheme, seeking to not just support Ukrainian scientists but also contribute in the long run to the intensification of cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian scientific milieux. We hope to support Polish-Ukrainian scientific projects that are important for both our countries and contribute to increasing the participation of researchers from Ukraine in addressing crucial questions regarding civil society, democracy, European integration, and security.”
The programme will be implemented through competition In two competitions held in 2022 a total of up to six scientific projects will be awarded. Pairs of scientists may apply: one person from Ukraine and one person employed in Poland. On their behalf, the person working in Poland submits the application together with the institution conducting scientific research in Poland (hosting institution), who will be financially managed the project.
The call for applications will be held in two competitions, on the following dates: by April 29, 2022 (first competition), and by September 30, 2022 (second competition). For more information and detailed regulations, see the programme website.
The FNP plans to establish partnerships and launch a fundraiser in order to engage as many researchers from Ukraine as possible in projects’ implementation as PIs and collaborators.
