??Thinking beyond national borders ? Research and funding across boundaries? is the title of an international conference, organised in Hannover on 17 and 18 October this year by the EFC Research Forum, part of the European Foundation Centre, whose member organisations include the Foundation for Polish Science.

The conference will focus on international collaboration in science and addressing global problems such as the increasing competition for resources, common reactions to complex global issues, and radicalised backlash against globalisation. The participants will examine opportunities for building effective partnerships and debate what needs to change to allow collaborative research to thrive, focusing on the role European foundations can play in this process.

The conference programme includes presentations and panels allowing participants to share experience and good practice regarding international collaboration ? both from the perspective of a researcher and a grantmaker. Building global alliances, science diplomacy and the future of research policy in Europe are among other themes to be discussed. One of the panellists invited to speak in Hannover is professor Marek Kwiek, laureate of FNP?s MASTER/MISTRZ programme, Chairholder, UNESCO Chair in Institutional Research and Higher Education Policy at the University of Poznan.

The event is hosted by Volkswagen Stiftung, a member organisation of the EFC Research Forum.
