We are happy to announce that Marta Baron-Milian’s book Neofuturzy i futuryści. Kryptohistorie polskiej awangardy, published in the FNP Monographs (MONOGRAFIE FNP) series, won the GDYNIA Literary Prize in the essay category.

The book discusses the beginnings of the Polish literary avant-garde and futurism, reinterpreted through the prism of three main characters: Jerzy Jankowski, Anatol Stern, and Aleksander Wat. The author’s archival research, analyses of press material, and interpretations of manifestos, poems, and prose texts allowed her to reconstruct the earliest manifestations of the Polish avant-garde.

Marta Baron-Milian is a literary scholar and cultural studies specialist who works in the Institute of Literary Studies at the University of Silesia. Her research interests include Polish poetry of the twentieth and twenty-first century, avant-garde and experimental practices, and the relationship between literature and economy. She has authored the monographs Wat plus Vat. Związki literatury i ekonomii w twórczości Aleksandra Wata (2015) and Grzebanie grzebania. Archeolog i grabarz w twórczości Jerzego Ficowskiego (2014).

GDYNIA Literary Prize (Nagroda Literacka GDYNIA) has existed since 2006 and recognizes extraordinary achievements by living Polish authors. Awarded annually, the prize goes to authors of the best books published in the previous year. Owing to its unprecedented format, which celebrates poets, prose writers, essayists, and translators on equal terms, the prize quickly became an important and unique event in the Polish literary circles. The nineteenth edition held this year saw a record-breaking number of over 700 books.

Congratulations!
