COPERNICUS AWARD LAUREATES 2016

Prof. Agnieszka Chacinska is a graduate of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw. In 2000 she was awarded with a PhD degree in biochemistry at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. In the years 2001-2009 she worked at the University of Freiburg in Germany as a postdoctoral fellow and subsequently as an independent group leader. Since 2009 Agnieszka Chacinska is at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw. She was honored with the title of a full professor in 2014. Her research interests cover the biogenesis, transport and turn-over of proteins within the cell. She is a recipient of prestigious grants, including WELCOME from the FNP.

Prof. Peter Rehling started his scientific work in the group of Prof. Wolf-H. Kunau in Bochum. He joined the Howard Hughes Medical Institute of the University of California in San Diego working in the laboratory of Prof. Scott D. Emr. For his work at the University of Freiburg, he received the Young Investigator Award 2005, the top award of the German Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) for young scientists. In 2007 he was appointed director of the Department for Biochemistry II of the University of Göttingen. He became associated with the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in 2010. In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments he received an ERC Advanced Grant in 2013.
