The Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) and the Research Council of Norway (RCN) jointly conducted a project to investigate barriers to research valorization in Poland. Research valorization is a process of activities that support the transfer of knowledge from the academic sector to the economy, but it furthermore entails the transfer of scientific discoveries and innovations into the economy, social effects, or policy recommendations. We invite you to read the Summary Report.

The project invited participants from several European countries – seven experts who specialize in knowledge transfer, research commercialization, intellectual property protection, and academic education. The experts met with 24 teams of Polish researchers who are conducting research funded by Polish, European, and EEA and Norway grants. During the meetings, the beneficiaries spoke about their experiences in conducting research, implementing projects, and especially their experiences in research valorization.

The meetings led to the preparation of the Summary Report that presents conclusions and implementation recommendations that can increase research results’ impact on social and economic value creation. Moreover, the Summary Report includes examples from European countries that show how they successfully resolved specific issues, such as the creation of technology transfer centers that support several research institutions.

We hope the Summary Report will foster researchers’ awareness about and motivation to engage in research valorization processes. We strongly believe that the recommendations will support the design of future funding schemes, thus increasing practical applications of scientific knowledge.
