Over PLN 335,000 from the 1.5% tax donation for developing the scientific talents of START scholars – thank you!

Published: %s 09.10.2025

Last year, as many as 1,100 taxpayers decided to allocate 1.5% of their income tax to the Foundation for Polish Science, resulting in a total amount of PLN 337,420.70. The collected funds will allow us to finance more than 10 out of 100 scholarships for the winners of the #START FNP program, including special ones for the most outstanding fellows of the recently concluded START 2025 competition.

How do we use the 1.5% tax donations?

The Foundation has the status of a public benefit organization (OPP), which means it can receive 1.5% of income tax from individuals. Thanks to these funds, the laureates of the START program receive scholarships.
We primarily use these funds to finance scholarships for those who received the highest scores in the competition – they are awarded a distinguished scholarship.

A standard one-year scholarship amounts to PLN 30,000, while distinguished laureates receive an increased scholarship of PLN 38,000.

In the START 2025 edition, the distinguished scholars are:
• Jędrzej Chrzanowski (Medical University of Łódź, Faculty of Medicine) – natural and medical sciences;
• Jakub Zakrzewski, M.Sc. (Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Faculty of Chemistry) – chemical and materials sciences;
• Sebastian Borówka, M.Sc. (University of Warsaw, Centre of New Technologies) – technical and exact sciences;
• Michalina Kowala, M.Sc. (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Faculty of Law and Administration) – humanities and social sciences.

Why do we support young scientists?

Allocating funds to the development of scientific talents—despite many other urgent social needs—is an investment in something much greater than short-term assistance.
This kind of support not only gives talented young people the opportunity to realize their potential, but also helps build a system in which science becomes a true driving force for positive change. As a result, the development of individual talents contributes to improving the quality of life for society as a whole.

Thank you for your support!

This year, you have collectively donated PLN 337,420.70, which will be entirely allocated to young researchers for the development of their scientific work.

We sincerely thank you for every contribution and believe you will continue to help us support the next generation of scientists. Please remember that you can support the START fellows not only by donating 1.5% of your tax, but also by making a direct donation to the START scholarship fund.
